Stamping mathematical patterns

This archived Art and design scheme of work video introduces teachers to a lesson where Key stage 2 pupils create handmade stamps to explore geometric shapes, rotation, and symmetry. It encourages pupils to design and cut simple 2D shapes from foam or polystyrene, attach them to corks or blocks, and use them as printing tools. The video demonstrates each stage, from preparing and inking the stamps to experimenting with repeating and symmetrical patterns, helping pupils combine mathematical concepts with creative printing techniques for striking results.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s original LKS2 Art and design resources. It supports teachers in guiding pupils to link art with maths, developing skills in pattern, symmetry, and repetition, while encouraging experimentation with colour, composition, and collaborative creativity
