Using Google Sheets and forms
This Computing video supports teachers in guiding children to create and populate a Google Sheet, sort and filter data, and create a quiz using Google Forms. Teachers are shown how to set up a shared spreadsheet with column headings that match fields from the pupils’ Top Trump cards. The video demonstrates how pupils can input their own data, sort by highest or lowest values using filters, and identify specific entries using the ‘Create a filter’ function. It highlights how sorting helps answer comparative questions like “Which alien is the strongest?” and filtering helps locate specific values such as all aliens with an appetite score of seven.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing scheme of work – videos. It builds teachers’ confidence in modelling how to handle, explore and interrogate data within spreadsheets, even with a class that may not have individual Gmail accounts. The video also supports teachers in introducing Google Forms as a tool for pupils to create their own data-driven quizzes. This prepares pupils for future lessons where they will explore how to represent data in different ways using charts and graphs.
