Self-expression through 3D artwork

This Art and Design scheme of work video introduces the Sculpture and 3D unit, giving pupils the freedom to express their identity through 3D artwork. The unit encourages children to reflect on key memories, experiences, and influences that have shaped who they are. Pupils explore artists who use self as a theme, then develop their own ideas into a personal and symbolic memory box.

With an emphasis on material choices and sculptural techniques, pupils are guided to play and experiment freely—using found and recycled materials to create meaningful forms. There’s no set outcome, so the focus remains on creative decisions, reflecting pupils’ individuality and artistic development.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 6 Making memories unit. Pupils are guided in applying their knowledge confidently and independently, building on everything they’ve learned throughout Key Stage 2.
