Create and perform dance

This PE scheme of work video introduces teachers to the final lesson in the sequence, where Key stage 2 pupils compose and perform their own movement phrases with a partner. Building on prior learning, pupils create two eight-count phrases inspired by directional steps and jumps from the clock-based activities. Teachers are guided with examples of both simple and dynamic movement ideas, along with tips for modelling, supporting creativity, and encouraging the use of upper body movements for greater expression and variety.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Dance resources. It simplifies the process by providing reminders, paired composition tasks, and performance opportunities. Teachers are supported in helping pupils rehearse and refine their ideas, offer feedback to peers, and celebrate the final performance. This lesson encourages collaboration, confidence, and creativity, rounding off the unit with a fun and memorable class presentation.
