Introducing the Year 3 Networks unit

This Computing scheme of work video introduces teachers to the key knowledge and concepts covered in the Year 3 Networks unit. It supports teachers in explaining what a network is, how data is shared across connected devices and how this relates to the wider Internet.

The video outlines five sequenced lessons, each building on the last, and highlights supporting CPD and pupil videos. It explains how pupils will learn the basics of networks, starting with two or more connected devices, before exploring information sharing, the role of servers and how routers link networks to the Internet. Teachers are also guided on using unplugged activities to help pupils visualise networks and understand abstract computing concepts in a practical way.
