Exploring networks

This Computing scheme of work video introduces teachers to the key components of a school network, including servers, routers, wireless access points and network switches. It explains how these devices connect and communicate, supporting the children’s understanding of how data moves across the network.

Using familiar examples, such as printing a file, the video shows how information travels from a laptop to a wireless access point, through a switch, and to the printer. It also explains how servers store shared files, routers manage internet connections and switches direct network traffic.
