Pop art with Lichtenstein

This archived Art and design scheme of work video introduces teachers to a lesson inspired by Roy Lichtenstein’s pop art, where Key stage 2 pupils experiment with colour mixing, washes, and dot techniques. It explores how Lichtenstein filled areas with bold, contrasting colours and used evenly spaced dots to imitate comic book printing. The video demonstrates each stage, from applying acrylic washes with paper towels and blending colours into explosions, to adding uniform dot matrix patterns, building texture and depth across the collaborative class artwork.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s original KS1 Art and design resources. It supports teachers in guiding pupils to combine different painting methods and surfaces, encouraging experimentation with colour, tone, and technique while contributing to a whole-class pop art creation.
