Months, syllables and questions
This Spanish Kapow teacher video supports you in teaching pupils to identify, read and pronounce the months of the year in Spanish. Since all but one month are cognates, pupils will quickly recognise and order them, allowing you to focus on correct pronunciation. This lesson is also a great opportunity for pupils to revisit Spanish phonemes introduced in Year 3. Encourage them to say each month aloud before any audio is played, helping to reinforce their phonics knowledge and develop confidence in speaking.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Spanish scheme of work – vocabulary. It offers guidance on how to break down Spanish words into syllables using simple rules that aid accurate pronunciation and spelling. You’ll also see how to teach pupils to turn a statement like Es diciembre into a question simply by using rising intonation. By modelling intonation clearly and using gestures, you can help pupils confidently use Spanish question forms while continuing to develop their phonological awareness.
