Creating language videos

This Spanish Kapow teacher video supports a creative and purposeful approach to language learning by encouraging pupils to create their own videos. From role plays and interviews to songs, weather reports and storytelling, filming provides exciting opportunities to practise both conversational and formal language in context. These activities are closely linked to the learning objectives and support vocabulary development, pronunciation and confidence with speaking. By using familiar technology and giving children ownership of their performances, video making brings language learning to life.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Spanish scheme of work – performance. It offers practical guidance on using video in the classroom to enhance pupil motivation, independence and self-assessment. Filming allows children to rehearse, review and refine their work, while also providing concrete evidence of progress. It supports inclusive practice, giving both confident performers and quieter pupils a way to succeed. Whether shared with the class or saved for reflection, these videos capture learning in action and help build pride and engagement in modern language learning.
