Making the structure of a pop-up book

This Design and technology video supports teachers by demonstrating how to guide the pupils through assembling the structure of their books, including the front cover, internal pages and pop-up elements.

The video shows how to prepare and join pieces of stiff A3 paper or card to create the book’s core structure. It models each step clearly from pre-cutting pages and sharpening folds with a ruler to assembling pages in the correct order. The process includes how to add a pop-up mechanism using measured cuts and folds, helping the pupils create a three-dimensional feature across the centre pages.

This resource equips teachers with the confidence and practical knowledge needed to support the children in building a complete book structure ready for decorating in the lesson and unit below.
