Investigating how plants grow

This Science scheme of work video introduces Kapow Primary’s Key Stage 2 Making connections units, which use extended investigations to apply scientific knowledge in new contexts. The featured inquiry explores phototropism, with pupils growing micro pea seeds in boxes lit by simple circuits. They conduct a comparative test, controlling variables and collecting observational data to investigate how light direction affects plant growth.

As part of the Science light resources, the video supports teachers through each stage of the inquiry cycle—questioning, planning, observing, concluding, and evaluating. It demonstrates how to guide pupils in scientific thinking using structured activities, results tables, and shared data to build confidence and deepen understanding.
