French musical instruments

This French video introduces teachers to a lesson in which pupils learn the names of musical instruments and practise saying which instrument they play or don’t play. It explores the use of the verb jouer with different structures for sports, games, and musical instruments, as well as how grammar changes depending on whether the instrument name is masculine or feminine. The video models listening activities, vocabulary games, and wrap-up tasks to consolidate learning, while also suggesting ways to extend pupil language use through dictionary work and question-and-answer challenges.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s French – music. It supports teachers in building pupils’ confidence with speaking and listening, using cognates, and applying new vocabulary in context. The lesson can be linked to the real Eurovision Song Contest for added cultural relevance, and culminates in pupils writing and performing their own songs.
