Describing shapes in French

This French video introduces teachers to building descriptive phrases using size and colour to describe shapes, while reinforcing understanding of how adjectives work in French. Through questioning and repetition, pupils identify shape vocabulary, spot cognates, and learn that colour adjectives typically follow the noun, while size adjectives come before it.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s French scheme – vocabulary. It models a gradual build-up from recognising shapes, to adding colours, and finally combining both with size. It offers strategies for encouraging pupils to notice word order differences between English and French, supporting language learning through listening, speaking, and observation.
