Block printing using Lego

This Art and design scheme of work video supports a lesson where pupils will work on simple block printing using Lego bricks. It helps children explore shape, pattern and precision with a fun, hands-on approach.

Pupils will get started with a single Lego brick, using either a brush or paint tray to apply colour to the bumpy side. The video shows how to control the amount of paint and how to print cleanly without smudging. Children are encouraged to experiment, seeing what happens if the block moves or slides. Next, they’ll explore printing with multiple bricks stuck onto a larger base to create patterns or pictures. The video includes tips for cleaning blocks between colours and ideas for trying out letters, mirror printing and overlapping colours to create vibrant effects.
