Monoprinting houses

This Art and design scheme of work video introduces teachers to a printmaking lesson where Key stage 2 pupils develop their observational house drawings into monoprints. Instead of reproducing the entire sketch, pupils learn to crop and select interesting sections using simple L-shaped mounts, encouraging them to see detail in new ways. The video demonstrates each stage, from framing and sketching chosen areas to preparing ink, rolling it evenly, and transferring clear line drawings to create striking prints, with opportunities for experimentation and variation.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Art and design Craft and design video resources. It supports teachers in guiding pupils to explore abstraction, composition, and the technical process of monoprinting, helping them to build confidence in printmaking while developing observational skills and creativity in lessons like the ones below.
