Building phrases about animal habitats

This French video introduces teachers to a lesson where pupils learn to build simple phrases describing where animals live or do not live. The focus is on two key grammar points: the definite article (le, la, l’) and the negative form (ne…pas). The lesson begins with a fast-paced listening warm-up using animal nouns from previous learning, before introducing the structure for asking “Where is…?” and grouping nouns by gender.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s French – vocabulary. It uses engaging flashcards, humorous mismatched examples (such as a fish in the forest), and spinner-based paired activities to encourage sentence building. Pupils practise both positive and negative forms, explore vocabulary from the dictionary, and apply their skills creatively. The approach keeps grammar light and pupil-led, enabling learners to deduce rules themselves while consolidating scientific knowledge later in the topic.
