This Geography scheme of work video supports teachers in delivering a foundational physical geography lesson on the features and courses of a river. The video introduces the three main stages of a river—upper, middle and lower course—and the landforms typically found at each stage.
Teachers are guided through key vocabulary and descriptive language to help pupils identify features such as the source, tributaries, V-shaped valleys, waterfalls, meanders, oxbow lakes, floodplains, deltas and estuaries. While pupils in Key Stage 2 are not required to understand the processes of erosion and deposition in detail, this video helps teachers model clear explanations of where each feature is located along the river’s journey.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Geography – Rivers Teacher video collection and lays essential groundwork for pupils as they explore river systems in greater depth.
