Introducing Fiona Rae

This Art and design scheme of work video introduces a lesson where pupils explore and respond to the abstract artwork of contemporary British painter Fiona Rae, developing their visual literacy and creative thinking through this.

The lesson begins with a close look at Rae’s work. Pupils are encouraged to share their thoughts, describe what they see, and connect the artwork to their own experiences. Pupils will recreate their own version of the painting, focusing on geometric shapes and making sure their choices reflect the mood or theme they’ve discussed. As they work, pupils think about the formal elements of art, such as colour, shape, and composition, and are encouraged to explain the decisions they make in their work.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 6 Artist study unit. It supports pupils to express ideas and through discussion as they learn from both artists and each other.
