French puppet performances

This French scheme of work video introduces teachers to the skills needed to help Key stage 2 pupils combine art and language learning by making puppets and performing a French rhyme. It explores how to give simple instructions in French, encourage pupils to respond through actions, and adapt a variation of the traditional rhyme Two Little Dickie Birds with new characters. The video demonstrates each step, from building puppets and rehearsing the rhyme to experimenting with vocabulary and pronunciation in performance.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Language teacher video resources. It simplifies the process, ensuring teachers feel confident and prepared to support the pupils in developing all four language skills through a creative project. With opportunities to design puppets, rehearse in pairs, perform with backdrops or music, and bring in aspects of French culture, the lesson makes language learning memorable, practical and fun.
