Final dance: part one

This PE scheme of work video introduces teachers to the first part of the final performance sequence, where Key stage 2 pupils build on previous learning to practise two choreographed movement phrases to a faster drumbeat. Inspired by the heartbeat rhythm common in Ugandan dance, pupils begin with a warm-up using the clock directions before rehearsing “the pizza” and “the step back.” Teachers are supported with clear demonstrations, modelling tips, and guidance for keeping time, extending arms, and maintaining balance.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Dance resources. It simplifies the process by introducing a presentation tool to help pupils track movement phrases using eight-count rows, visual cues, and instrument sounds. With time to practise and reflect, children are encouraged to count in their heads, focus on timing, and prepare for the full performance by mastering part one. The next lesson will reveal and teach the next two movement phrases in the sequence.
