Understanding design briefs and writing design criteria

This Design and technology scheme of work video supports teachers by explaining what a design brief is and how to guide children in writing clear, effective design criteria. It models how to create specific and measurable ‘must’ statements that define a product’s function, key features, the user’s needs and any constraints. Practical examples show teachers how to help the children break down and understand what their product needs to do.

This video helps teachers feel confident and well prepared to support the children in writing their own design criteria in the lesson and unit that follow.
