Enquiry in history lessons
In this History video, teachers are introduced to the skills needed to help pupils ask and answer historical questions.
The video demonstrates how overarching enquiry questions can structure learning, explains the difference between open and closed questions and shows how to support children in writing their own questions to guide their investigation. Teachers see how to model effective questioning, encourage curiosity and guide the children in using evidence to form and test ideas. Practical strategies help the children engage confidently with enquiry, develop critical thinking and explore the past in a structured and meaningful way.
This teacher video is part of Kapow Primary’s History skills videos, designed to build teachers’ confidence and skills in supporting the children to ask questions and investigate the past.
