Why we have seasons

This Science scheme of work video introduces teachers to the skills needed to help Key Stage 2 pupils understand the causes of day and night and the changing seasons. Using simple models with a torch and ball, pupils explore how the Earth’s rotation on its tilted axis leads to day and night, and how its orbit around the Sun causes seasonal changes. The video supports teachers in guiding pupils through hands-on modelling and in drawing accurate diagrams to explain these astronomical concepts.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Science Space resources. It simplifies the process, ensuring teachers feel confident and prepared to support pupils in exploring Earth’s movements through visual modelling and clear scientific explanation in lessons like the ones below.
