Footsteps and direction in dance

This PE scheme of work dance video introduces teachers to a creative movement activity that helps Key stage 2 pupils explore direction through the use of an imaginary clock face. Pupils use steps and jumps to travel to different clock positions, building spatial awareness and coordination. The video demonstrates how to guide pupils through a sequence of structured movements, support peer work as they create their own combinations, and challenge them with layered actions like arm gestures or moving in opposite directions.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Dance resources. It simplifies the process, providing clear movement examples, an independent task, and strategies for peer support. Teachers are guided through a progressive lesson that builds movement vocabulary, encourages creativity, and culminates in pupils performing their own choreographed sequences with confidence and directional awareness.
