Creating collages

This Art and design scheme of work video supports pupils as they begin arranging and composing their painted textures into a finished collage.

This activity can be done individually or in groups. Collaborative work gives pupils a chance to practise using art vocabulary and develop skills in cooperation and compromise.

Using the images that inspired their textured papers, children begin to think about what their collage will show. They choose which papers work best for different areas. The video guides pupils to consider shape and method. Encourage children to try out different arrangements before gluing anything down. Demonstrate how to overlap or slot shapes together and explore which colours and textures work best side by side.
