Designing Bee-Bot worlds
This Computing video supports teachers in delivering a creative and accessible lesson in which pupils design and programme their own Bee-Bot maps. Children are encouraged to personalise their Bee-Bot worlds, helping them see computing as a creative subject where ideas can be expressed in different ways. By recapping prior learning—such as the tinkering challenges, the use of commands like ‘CLEAR’, and the importance of clear, sequential instructions—children are supported to build confidence with programming their Bee-Bot.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing scheme of work – videos. It offers guidance on how to model commands, simplify sequences where needed, and link previous lessons to this hands-on activity. Teachers are encouraged to reinforce vocabulary such as “clear,” “move,” and “go,” especially for pupils who may need extra support. This lesson provides a first step into programming, setting the stage for the following session where children will begin to code with greater purpose.
