Using Sketchpad to create digital art
This Art and design scheme of work video introduces teachers to the basics of digital art, helping them support children as they transform their drawings into digital creations using Sketchpad.
Sketchpad is a web-based tool offering a range of brushes and effects to experiment with colour, texture and design. Children can explore different digital techniques such as freehand drawing with brushes like fur, crayon and paint, using the eraser to remove elements, and adding shapes, text or colour. The video walks teachers through key tools and how to save and share work in various formats.
Sketchpad allows young artists to combine creativity and technology in a fun, accessible way—expanding their artistic toolkit and offering new ways to express their ideas.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 3 Developing drawing skills unit. It supports teachers to explore the exciting possibilities of digital art in the classroom, giving pupils new ways to express their creativity.
