Transport language detectives

This French scheme of work video introduces teachers to the skills needed to help Key stage 2 pupils uncover new vocabulary for transport using their detective strategies. It explores how to identify cognates, use clues in word forms, and apply phoneme recognition to support accurate spelling and pronunciation. The video demonstrates each step, from spotting familiar words and making predictions to matching captions with pictures and practising key sounds through listening and speaking activities.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Language teacher video resources. It simplifies the process, ensuring teachers feel confident and prepared to support the pupils in building transferable language-learning strategies. With opportunities to create a transport timeline and explore France’s role in transport innovation, the lesson combines detective work, phonics practice and cultural knowledge to launch the new topic with curiosity and confidence.
