Remixing HTML and CSS burgers

This Computing video supports teachers in guiding pupils to develop their understanding of web design using Mozilla Thimble. Building on the previous session, children will revisit their burger project and experiment with changing the colours, shapes, and even creating new ingredients using CSS code. The lesson introduces key coding concepts such as pixels as digital units of measurement and hex codes for defining colour, helping children understand how websites control appearance through CSS. Teachers are encouraged to model live coding and explore the relationship between the index file and the CSS stylesheet, using practical examples to help pupils debug and modify their code effectively.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing scheme of work – videos. It enhances teachers’ subject knowledge by demystifying technical language around CSS and enabling confident, hands-on delivery of code editing. With tips on modelling and differentiation, the video prepares teachers to support all learners as they manipulate digital images, explore colour values, and begin to personalise content with custom classes. The lesson sets the foundation for the next session, where pupils will apply their new knowledge to creatively edit a real web page.
