Understanding pitch in staff notation

This Music video introduces teachers to how pitch is represented on the staff notation stave. It explains how notes are positioned on lines and in spaces, introduces treble and bass clefs, and demonstrates how ledger lines extend the stave for higher or lower pitches. The video also covers sharps and flats, showing how accidentals alter notes by a semitone, and explains how key signatures are used to show consistent sharps or flats across a piece.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Music scheme – notes. It gives teachers clear guidance on teaching pitch notation, supporting pupils to connect sound with visual symbols and preparing them for confident reading of staff notation in performance and composition activities.
