Recognising and pronouncing the soft d sound in Spanish

In this Spanish phonics video, pupils are introduced to the soft ‘d’ sound, a gentler version of the English ‘d’ that appears between vowels in words such as ‘nada’ and ‘dedo’. The video supports pupils in recognising and producing this subtler consonant accurately, helping them understand how Spanish sounds differ from English.

Through mouth mechanics, pupils practise placing the tip of the tongue lightly against the upper teeth while keeping airflow smooth and gentle. With modelling and repetition they learn to pronounce the sound clearly without over-articulating. Pupils also develop listening discrimination and practise identifying the sound in spoken examples, building confidence in their own pronunciation through guided activities.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Spanish videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore and develop their language skills.
