Recognising and pronouncing the ‘b’ and ‘v’ sounds in Spanish

In this Spanish phonics video, pupils learn about the Spanish ‘b’ and ‘v’ sounds, exploring the surprising similarity between these letters. Unlike in English, both letters are pronounced using a similar voiced bilabial sound, making them nearly indistinguishable in most contexts.

Through demonstration and repetition, pupils are guided through mouth mechanics to practise forming the sound with their lips and voice. The video also helps pupils recognise the sound in common Spanish vocabulary and builds awareness of how these letters function in written and spoken Spanish. Listening activities and modelling support pupils in distinguishing the letters and developing confidence in reading and writing.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Spanish videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore and develop their language skills.
