Zoo habitats and animal care

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Science scheme of work. It is designed for pupils and explores how wild animals live in different habitats around the world, including specially designed environments in zoos. The video explains that while many animals live freely in the wild, zoos recreate natural habitats with plants, rocks, and water to help animals feel safe and comfortable.

Pupils learn about the important role of zookeepers, who care for animals by providing the right food, fresh water, clean spaces, and opportunities for play and rest. From elephants washing themselves to small animals getting a gentle clean, the video highlights how zoos support animal wellbeing. It ends by inspiring pupils to think about becoming zookeepers and looking after animals themselves one day.

The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Science, Reception, Reception units, Animal adventures, Lesson 5: Zoo animals
