Wrapping objects in wool

This Art and design scheme of work video supports a wool wrapping activity, where pupils explore how wrapping transforms the look and feel of everyday objects.

It shows how some artists wrap objects in wool or fabric as a creative technique. Pupils choose an object to wrap and select colours that work well together. The video demonstrates how to measure and cut wool to the right length using a ruler, then shows how to tape one end in place before wrapping. Pupils are encouraged to pull the wool tight as they go, to create neat, even layers. They learn how to switch colours, and are invited to notice what happens when colours overlap. Wrapping doesn’t need to cover the whole object, instead pupils will decide when it feels finished, and then secure the final end with glue.
