Combining woven objects

This Art and design scheme of work video helps pupils bring together all the fibre art techniques they’ve learned to create a finished textile piece on their loom.

Pupils will combine everything they have made, including wrapped objects, plaits, threaded beads and knots. Children are encouraged to explore different ways of attaching their pieces to the warp threads on their loom. They can weave items in, tie them on or wrap their fibre elements around the structure. The video invites pupils to experiment with direction, layering and overlap to see what looks interesting. As they work, pupils reflect on which materials and techniques go well together. Once their artwork is complete, they will step back and think about what they like about it, and which part of the process they enjoyed most.
