Would you survive?

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow History scheme of work. In this game, your goal is to collect all the items on the Iron Age survival list to win. You do this by bartering – offering trades to other players to get the cards you need. The game is played in groups of three, with each player starting with seven cards and their survival list. Make sure the cards are shuffled and keep them hidden from other players.

Players take turns to offer trades. For example, you might offer an axe card in exchange for a sheep card. If the other player has the item, they can accept or suggest a different trade, and you decide which offer to accept. If no trade can be made, everyone passes two cards to the player on their right. Play continues until someone has all the items on the list, proving they could survive in the Iron Age.

The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of History, Lower key stage 2, Year 3, British history 1: Would you prefer to have lived in the Stone Age, Bronze Age or Iron Age? Lesson 5: How did trade change lives in Iron Age Britain?
