How plants live and grow

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Science scheme of work. It is designed for pupils and introduces the basic structure and life processes of plants. Pupils learn that all plants, whether small flowers or tall trees, are living things that grow, change, and make new plants. The video highlights the four main parts of a flowering plant: roots, stems, leaves, and flowers, explaining the role each part plays in helping the plant survive.

The video also explores how trees differ from smaller plants, with their thick trunks, strong branches, and blossoms or fruits. Pupils are shown time-lapse footage to help visualise how slowly plants grow and the importance of sunlight, water, and air for healthy development. From garden flowers to giant oaks, the video celebrates the diversity and wonder of plant life.

The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Science, Key stage 1, Year 1, Plants: Introduction to plants, Lesson 1: What is a plant?
