Look outside! Learning about weather and seasons
This Geography scheme of work video introduces younger pupils to the key concepts of weather, seasons, and climate in a clear and engaging way. Pupils discover that weather can change from day to day and place to place, and that sometimes we experience more than one type of weather at once, such as when it is both sunny and cloudy.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Geography – Seasons and weather resources and explains how weather affects what we do and wear, and how we use the word temperature to describe how hot or cold it feels. It introduces the four seasons — spring, summer, autumn and winter — describing what the weather is typically like in each one and how we might enjoy and prepare for the conditions, such as wearing cosy scarves in autumn or sun hats in summer.
Pupils also learn how climate describes the usual weather in a place over a long time, and how some places are cool and wet while others are hot and dry. The video explains how weather reports help us plan by using symbols on maps to show what the weather will be like, and invites pupils to think about the weather where they are right now.
