Teaching animal names

This Spanish scheme of work video helps pupils practise talking about animals and pets through a lively and repetitive song. Set to the familiar tune of “What Shall We Do with the Drunken Sailor?”, the video asks “¿Tienes una mascota en casa?” and models a range of responses using “Tengo…” followed by common pet names.

Pupils join in with the call-and-response structure, hearing and repeating animal names such as un perro, un gato, un conejo and un pájaro. Visual prompts reinforce vocabulary and support recall through rhythm and melody. This fun and engaging video encourages active participation and helps embed sentence structure for expressing possession in Spanish.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Spanish video collection, supporting pupils with vocabulary acquisition and speaking confidence through music and repetition.
