The coldest places on Earth

This Geography video introduces Key stage 1 pupils to the Polar regions, helping them explore the unique characteristics of the North and South Poles. It explains how the Arctic is made up of floating ice surrounded by ocean, while Antarctica is a landmass covered in ice at the southern end of the Earth. Pupils discover the animals that live in these extreme environments, including whales, polar bears, seals and penguins and see how the icy landscapes can sometimes surprise us with sunshine as well as snow.

This video builds children’s awareness of contrasting places across the globe, ensuring teachers feel confident and prepared to guide pupils in understanding the special features of the coldest regions on Earth.
