Where is the Equator?

This Geography video introduces Key stage 1 pupils to the Equator, helping them understand why it is the hottest part of the Earth. It explains how the Equator is an imaginary line around the middle of the planet, halfway between the North and South Poles, and why countries close to it experience warm temperatures all year round. Pupils discover that although the Equator is not visible on the ground, it is shown on maps and globes to highlight the hottest regions of the world.

The video also explores the variety of environments found along the Equator, from lush rainforests and vast oceans to dry deserts, encouraging pupils to compare different landscapes and climates.

This video develops children’s understanding of global geography, ensuring teachers feel confident and prepared to guide pupils in learning about the Equator and its importance.
