Creating soundtracks using loops

This Computing scheme of work introduces pupils to using loops and musical code blocks to create action-themed soundtracks in Scratch. It supports pupils in composing rhythmic patterns by combining repeat and forever loops with the music extension.

The video shows how to add the music extension, use repeat loops for set rhythms, and forever loops for continuous background music. It explains how to control tempo, insert pauses with rest blocks, and layer drum beats with melodic notes to build dynamic, looping soundtracks.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 5 Computing Music unit. It helps teachers guide pupils in experimenting with musical coding, encouraging creativity while reinforcing key programming concepts through hands-on soundtrack creation.
