Introducing routers

This Computing scheme of work video introduces the role of a router and how it helps devices connect and communicate with each other. It supports learning from the Year 3 Computing systems and networks 1: Networks unit, where children explore the different parts that make up a computer network.

The video explains that a router is like a traffic manager, helping devices such as computers, tablets and smartphones share information and stay connected. It shows everyday examples, like playing games with friends online or watching videos, where the router helps deliver the information quickly and to the right place.

Pupils will see how routers are used not just at home but in schools, offices and large places like airports to keep everything running smoothly—even when lots of people are online at once.
