Altering code in Python

This Computing video introduces Year 6 pupils to remixing Python code on the micro:bit and using hash symbols to add comments that explain what the code is doing.

The video builds on an existing nested loop pattern and shows how changing values, such as the range and sleep, affect how LEDs light up across and down the grid. They explore how loops can run forwards or backwards to change the direction of a pattern and how pauses and clears can be added to create flashes and holds. The video explains that hashtags create comments which help programmers understand changes without affecting how the program runs. The children are encouraged to experiment by remixing the code and adding their own commented changes.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing Year 5 and 6 videos, which enable teachers and pupils to develop their digital skills, explore key computing concepts and create their own digital projects.
