Creating a variable in a pedometer program

This Computing video shows pupils how to begin programming a BBC micro:bit to act as a pedometer, counting the number of steps taken. It models how to create a new variable and explains why resetting ensures accurate counting. Pupils are guided through selecting blocks and building the first part of their pedometer program, preparing them to add step-counting functionality in later activities.

This video is part of the Year 5 Programming 2:BBC micro:bit unit. It provides clear, step-by-step instructions that help pupils understand variables and apply them in a practical, real-world context.

This is the first of three videos that together show pupils how to create a complete pedometer program.
