Adding an input to a pedometer program

This Computing video shows pupils how to continue building their BBC micro:bit pedometer by adding an input. Pupils are reminded of the variable created in the first video, then shown how to make the micro:bit respond to movement. The program is extended so that each shake increases the steps variable by one, representing a step taken. The video also introduces the show number block, enabling the micro:bit to display the current step count. Pupils are encouraged to test their program using the on-screen emulator to check that the step counter is working as intended.

This video is part of the Year 5 Programming 2:BBC micro:bit unit. It provides clear, practical guidance that helps pupils understand inputs and outputs in physical computing.

This is the second of three videos that together show pupils how to create a complete pedometer program.
