What plants need to grow
This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Science scheme of work . It is designed for pupils and explores what plants need to grow and stay healthy. The video explains how most plants use sunlight, water, air, and nutrients from soil to make their own food, grow strong stems, and produce flowers and fruit. It highlights the importance of space, as overcrowded plants must compete for essential resources.
Pupils also learn to recognise signs of unhealthy plants and are introduced to fascinating plant adaptations in extreme environments. From water-saving marram grass by the seaside to nutrient-hunting Venus flytraps and soil-free air plants, the video shows how some species thrive in surprising places by adapting in unique ways.
The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Science, Lower key stage 2, Year 3, Plants: Plant reproduction, Lesson 1: Plant growth
