Using plaiting, knotting and threading

This Art and design scheme of work video introduces practical craft skills like plaiting, threading and knotting, which are all useful techniques for making creative artwork.

The video shows how craft skills help in everyday life. Pupils learn that these same skills can also be used to make art. Step-by-step guidance is given for how to plait, and how to keep the plait tight and even. Children can experiment with colour and material, try threading beads or tying knots in different ways. They are encouraged to be curious and creative, exploring how simple techniques can be used in new and interesting combinations.
