Oceans around the world

This Geography video introduces Key stage 1 pupils to the world’s oceans, helping them understand the difference between rivers, seas and oceans. It explains that oceans are the largest areas of salt water on Earth and shows where the five oceans are found between the continents. Pupils learn key facts about each ocean, from the vast size of the Pacific and Atlantic to the icy waters of the Southern and Arctic Oceans, as well as how maps and globes can sometimes make oceans appear differently.

The video encourages pupils to compare the oceans’ locations and characteristics while thinking about which ocean is closest to where they live.

This video builds children’s global awareness and geographical vocabulary, ensuring teachers feel confident and prepared to guide pupils in exploring the importance of oceans.
