Learning how to use nested loops
This Computing scheme of work video introduces Year 5 pupils to using nested loops in Scratch – a useful coding technique that helps pupils add rhythm, structure and complexity to their digital soundtracks. It explains how loops within loops can be used to repeat patterns and build layered, organised music in Scratch.
The video uses clear examples to show how an outer loop controls overall structure, while inner loops repeat melodies and rhythms. It also introduces the forever loop, which creates a repeating beat, and explains how tempo settings influence the pace of the music.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing Music unit. It gives teachers the knowledge and confidence to guide pupils as they explore nested loops and begin composing more creative and structured soundtracks.
